About the Project
NinjaOne provides unified MSP software used by IT service providers to manage endpoints, patching, backup, and more. Alio IT joined as a remote engineering partner to strengthen automated testing and engineering discipline across the product—embedding with their teams to deliver reliable automation at scale.
Objectives
Objective 1
Automate a large legacy and regression test portfolio on the order of ~1,000 tests, with clear coverage and maintainability goals.
Objective 2
Help the organization adopt Test-Driven Development practices so new and changing features ship with executable specifications and faster feedback.
Objective 3
Operate as an integrated remote team: align on priorities, share ownership of suites, and hand off patterns the internal team can extend.
Objective 4
Integrate automated tests into delivery pipelines to catch regressions early and support continuous integration.
Challenge
The scope was massive—roughly a thousand tests to bring under automation—while product velocity could not stall. Alio focused on the highest-impact areas first, delivering approximately 60% of that automation workload as part of the broader initiative, coordinating closely with NinjaOne engineers on frameworks, data, and flaky-test stability.
